Richmond Rally Rustic  Ride Report

by Neil Mc

Five of us rode down to Sydney for the recent NSW State Rally held in Richmond over the 22nd - 25th January 2010 long weekend, although various individual personal commitments prevented us from riding as a group.

The character shown below (Yours Truly) left Mullumbimby at 11.30 the previous morning (Thursday), and arrived about 6.30 pm at the Buladelah pub to immediately down several refreshing ambers. Then an interesting chat with one of the locals who also rides a Harley (I forget which) and more ambers. Later, a scrumptious beefsteak and wine pie went down well. This was followed by quite a few more ambers until well after midnight.

Friday morning: pleasantly warm. A nice, quick ride to Sydney, off the freeway and on to Pennant Hills Road, and then a relatively quick run to Richmond - no problems. Arrived on the rally site at 11.00 am. Weather very warm. Whilst setting up my tent, the weather grew warmer and warmer until by the time I was half way though, it had become so bloomin' hot I had to sit down on the deck chair I had brought with me (yes - a deck chair yet, on my bike!).

Not many people here yet - no stalls, registration doesn't happen until 4pm. Heat oppressive, perspiration streaming off - so took a nap. Went down to register at about 4.15pm  - guess who turns up right then, at the same time - Mick K and Ed S.

These two bods (on the right) had left early Friday morning and, having arrived around 4.15 in the afternoon, spent no time in getting into the swing of things.

Then another two turned up just a couple of minutes later - all timing coincidental.

See his mug shot - and guess who.

Free complimentary bottle of water. Lots of goodies in our show bags, including a bottle of sweet chilli sauce and a pair of sunnies.

   ..... hmm ....

Saturday - a walk around town. Still bloomin' hot. Lots of banana smoothies and sorbets.

Bingo in the afternoon - Mick and Ed apparently swept up heaps of prizes. Saturday night band was loud and ok - very nice, warm evening, beer was great.

A cool change (preceded by fierce winds) came through late Saturday, and Sunday was thankfully overcast and much cooler.

Sunday - thunder run. Short, but extremely well organised, from Richmond to Windsor.

Then in the afternoon, the usual gymkana games -

Sunday afternoon - no bingo prizes for Ed or Mick.

Sunday night - the presentations seemed very much a "NSW" affair - most awards going towards Broadwater, Blacktown and Liverpool (although a couple of prizes went to Sunshine Coast and Brisbane).

Monday - early start for Mick and Ed (about 6.30am), John and Gai rode off about 7.30 and I left at 9.30 (arriving in Mullum early evening).

Bloody great run .....
